  1. An old story goes where at one time Limerick corporation failed to agree to elect a mayor. On the third day and sitting until midnight they agreed to elect the first man to enter the town the following morning. Outposts were placed around the town a very cold winter and spring. Not very long a man entered from the Clare side driving a donkey on car with a load of brooms. This man was known as Shawn a Scoop and his way of living was selling brooms. Shawn was a once taken
