    This John had not yet reached twenty one but his mother having all the qualities of a clever English woman made up her mind that being in possession of Meine Castle the devil himself would not put her out of it and that come what may her son John would be the White Knight. The lad outside the gate pounded away at the gate and tried to impress on those inside that his master was the son of the old Knight and therefore was the rightful owner of the castle.
