- (continued from previous page)the potatoes are over ground they are trenched. First the furrows are ploughed. Then they are trenched with a shovel. The potatoes are trenched two times. In the summer they are sprayed two times. In (?) they are dug. The way the potatoes are dug is with a spade. Then the potatoes are picked into a pit and left in field. The big ones are put into a pit by themselves and the small ones put into another pit. There are many different kinds of potatoes such as ................(?). The (?) are the best potatoes for eating.
- The potatoes are sown in Spring. We plant about a half-acre of potatoes. First we draw out the manure with a horse and butt, then we scatter the manure with a four prong pike. Then we make the ridges with two horses and a plough. There are four sods in each ridge. Then we hack the ground with a hack. Then we set the potatoes with a spade. There are three or four scileans in the width of the ridge they are pounded with a spade or a shovel. Then they(continues on next page)
