- Fairy Forts. There was a fort in Ballycasey called the "Cathair" and it was built by the Danes in the eleventh century. There is a hole in the middle of the fort and many went down there, but nobody could go farther than thirty yards, because they were afraid they would be suffocated with foul air. People were making a pailing in the field and they hit one of the flags that were over the underground passage and the crow bar went down the hole and they never got it.Peggy O'Brien.Told by. Michael O'Brien, Ballyculhane. Age 49.
