“Long ago there lived in Ballydavid a man named John Geary...”
(ar lean ón leathanach roimhe)named John Geary. He was very strong and he was a quick runner. He was always boasting about what he could do. One day he was going to Midleton and he was trying to race the mail-car. He was driving in the butt and he had the donkey tackled. He was winning until they came to the sand pits and the donkey was getting tired. He untackled her and threw her into the butt. He pulled them then himself and when he came to the first Bank House he caught up to the car and passed it out a little farther up.
Another day John Geary and his wife were walking to Mass. There were some boys footballing in a field near the road. The ball ran out on the road and he kicked it. When they came home from mass, his wife went out to feed the fowl and she heard a noise. She asked John what it was. He said it was the ball he kicked going to Mass. His wife went out in the yard and she saw the ball at the piggery door.- Bailitheoir
