  1. Many years ago people known as travelling people came round to this district frequently. They used to stay in the farmers' houses of the district. Some of them came at Easter and Christmas times every year while others came every three or four months.
The people of the house were glad to see them because they told stories and brought news from other districts. The stories they told were ghost stories or tales of long ago.
They slept in the settle bed in the farm house kitchen or in a temporary bed fixed up for them in the barn or loft.
The people used to feed these travellers as they used not bring any food with them. They never stayed in any one place more than a few days at a time.
