  2. The Penal Days

    In the townland of Ballinahoun, parish of Fermoy, Co Cork there is a rock in a field owned by Mr. E. Barry. We are told by the old people that mass was celebrated on this rock in the penal days. A priest named Fr. Coleman used to celebrate it unknown to the English soldiers and spies. The rock is now covered with briers and bushes. It resembles an earthern bank now with briers growing on it.
