    In 1652 a large area of land in Duhallow was confiscated by Cromwell and handed over to his soldiers.
    Twenty eight families were driven out of the townlands of Tobar Dubh and Kon Maol and both townlands were given to a Colonel Dickson. He built a wall around his estate which comprised over 300 acres and made a deer park of it. Many acres of it were planted. Dividing walls stretched from the top of the hill, one towards Sunday's Well and the other extended to "Red Gate." Remains of both walls are still to be seen.
    Afterwards, Dickson was killed in a duel by one of the O'Callaghans of Clonmeen and the park became the property of Sir Edward Townsend. Their stronghold was on the land now occupid by Dan Sheehan, Fermoyle. The leaders of Dromagh afterwards purchased the place in 1828 and afterwards Captain Burke got possession of it. His brother
