    number. The population was very great at the time and numbers had to emigrate by any means in order to escape the misery. All this was brought about by the English Government as they kept our people in bondage and starvation.
    The English land owners made the people poor by compelling them to pay more rent than they were able, and in doing this were taking the money that the poor people needed to feed themselves.
