- Soft filmy clouds are a sign of fine weather, but those with hard edges predict rain or wind. The light delicate colours are those of fine weather, but gaudy brilliant hues are a bad sign. Watch the quarter from which clouds rise.
If they come slowly from the west or south-west expect rain, but clouds in the east rise early in the day are not rain clouds. When the clouds break before the wind leaving a clear sky you may be fairly sure of fine weather.
