  1. The Commons Road extends from Blackpool Bridge to the Commons Cross at the bottom of Killard. It is so called because it was originally made through marshes or commons, at the north west end of Cork City. It runs in a south westerly direction and traces can still be seen of the old bogs.
After passing the Commons Cross, you come to the main Road, which runs through Killard to Blarney. Before reaching Blarney, on your left hand side, you see the Kiln Wood, so called because in olden days and up to recent times, Limestone was burned and Lime was made at the Kiln at the edge of the Wood, both of which are owned by Sir George's Mansion, and there is a legend which says "When Cromwell captured Blarney Castle, Mc Carthy Mor buried his treasure in the Lake, which is supposed to be bottomless. The treasure can never be recovered, until seven white, bred by the same white mare, help to pull it out of the water".
