  1. On the year after the famine 1848 the first train was run on the G.S.R line from Cork to Dublin and was called “Lady Mac Neill”. On that day people from miles and miles around came to see the unusual sight. One old man amongst them could not believe that it was steam and water made the train run and he is supposed to have said that it was the Devil himself was driving it.
