  1. The townland in which I live is called Berrings.
Many stories are told how this townland got its name. There are two rocks in the townland one on the north side, and another on the south side. The rock on the north of the townland was once a rocking stone, and many people used to come to this rock on Sundays for a days sport. But the people used to harm crops which grew near the rock and the owner of the farm put stones and gravel under the rock and stopped it from rocking. There are points on the rocks and that is why the townland is called Berrings.
There are a few songs made about Berrings and I will relate a verse of one of them now.
"When you come up to Berrings your attention is drawn
"With the beautiful surroundings I am now going to call,
"There is a picturehouse, chapel, both stately and tall,
    "A pub and a school-house and a gorgeous town-hall.
