  1. About two miles west of Ballineen there is a place called "Léim an tSagart". It is said that years ago a bishop, named Egan, was murdered there, by a local protestant, who afterwards escaped to America. The deed was done by a spear, used for spearing salmon, (The Bandon River runs quite near) which he buried in the local bog.
Thirty-five years after the murderer returned to his native district, and on his way through the same bog, he got stabbed through the foot by the same spear and died in great agony.
