The butter is made when the churn does not rattle.
When the cream gets sticky water is poured in. The butter is taken out the mouthpiece. The butter-milk is drank.
Sometimes the butter is stolen by other people and it was taken round a field. This was a custom. Sometimes the butter was never returned. There are four different kinds of churns used in the district. Long ago "the plunge upright churn" was very common.
