  1. The late Mr. James Kennedy was one of the greatest athletes in this district. He was born in Castlebanny about two miles outside Ballyhale and later lived at White's Castle near Knocktopher for a number of years.
    He won numerous prizes in this country and in America. His principal events were from one hundred yards race to the mile race.
    It was a treat to see his sideboard of beautiful cups, and prizes of every description.
    He died in March 1936 at the age of seventy after a short illness.
