We very seldom see one of those houses nowadays except one here or there in the middle of a bog. In olden times the mud cabins were much safer than the log ones, because there was always a great danger of the log ones taking fire. This often happened and many people were injured and burned in the flames. Houses built on islands in a lake were generally known as "Cranogs".
