    The leipreachan was a fairy cobbler, who made shoes for the fairies. He lived underground amongst the roots of trees and in rabbit holes. In his home he had gold hidden, so that no one could find it. Pat and his mother often heard the tap-tap-tap of his tiny hammer on tiny shoes.
    One evening Pat heard the tapping of a tiny hammer. He looked down and there was a leipreachan busily mending shoes. The cobbler was a funny little fellow, very old and wrinkled, and a red cap on his head, and a leather apron round
