  1. There was once an Earl of Kildare known as the "Wizard Earl", because he dealt in magic and enchantments. He is supposed to be alive still in the Rath of Mullaghmast near Athy and people say he comes down from the Rath three times a year and rides round the Curragh on a ghostly white horse.
