- About half a mile outside Celbridge on the Maynooth road there is a large ditch containing water. This ditch figures in the following story.
Once there was a man of about 18 years of age who was a great gambler. Every night he stayed out till twelve o'clock. On his way home, he had to pass this ditch where a young lady has previously drowned herself. One night as he was passing this spot, the lady walked across the road in front of him. Not frightened by the appearance of the lady he passed the same spot at the same time the following night. This time, however, she stepped up to him & snatched off his cap.
