- (ar lean ón leathanach roimhe)called piggins were used. These were earthenware vessels shaped like what we now call mugs. Wooden mugs were in common use up to 1875. Some of these contained a quart. Others contained a pint. These were cut out of a block of timber. In 1875 tin saucepans some of which measured a quart and others which measured a pint came into use.
