- About thirty years ago people did not buy ropes as they do at present for they made them in the homes. They got a ball of binding twine and with the help of a mowing machine made a good strong rope. They also made them by getting many balls of twine and cutting them in long pieces. When a good many pieces were cut they tied them on a stick and twisted them until the rope was made.
