  1. In this district marriages usually take place between Christmas and Shrove. It is thought unlucky to get married on Friday or Saturday for the old ryme says:- Monday for wealth, Tuesday for health, Wednesday the best day of all. Thursday for losses, Friday for crosses and Saturday no day at all. In the year 1853 marriages took place in the peoples' houses.
