    It was on a Monday morn, ¶ The weather it being clear, ¶ When Maguire and Mc Caffrey ¶ Started for Dunleer.

    It was on a Monday morn,
    The weather it being clear,
    When Maguire and Mc Caffrey
    Started for Dunleer.
    When they went to Collin Gap
    No work there they could find.
    Said Maguire to Mc Caffrey
    "We're far from Donaghmoyne".
    They returned home on Saturday night,
    Prepared and went to bed.
    When Ward arose next morning he said
    "I fear my boys are dead".
    "What had you done for cash my boys?
    I'm afraid that you were dry,
    For you both went off that morning
    And never said 'Good - bye'".
    "For cash we had plenty.
    On the road we met a friend;
    He put his hand into his pocket
    And some money he did lend".
