  1. Local Marriages
Marriages take place locally at all times of the year, but principally at Shrove and Easter. I dont know of any beliefs or customs.
Matches are made in my district and money given in dowry, stocks and goods are not given now but they were long ago.
I dont know that any person now remembers marriages in the homes. But it was a custom in the district well over a hundred years ago. Weddings are rarely held in the district now but were always held about thirty years ago. If they are held now straw boys attend, dressed in some funny way with straw decorating their dress. They get drink and they dance and sing.
Parties in a wedding procession do not now race against each other but they did one time before motor cars came into fashion.
Wives did at one time sit on the saddles with their husbands but no one living now remembers such. There were little roads or carts at that time.
