    Spinning
    In my grandmother's time everyone spun their own thread at home. There were two kinds of spinning wheels, one for spinning wool into yarn or thread, and the other for spinning flax into thread, for making linen.
    Flax seed was first set in March or April. It grew into a long thin blade and a blue flower came on it. It was then pulled in September with the hand and tied in small bundles. It was next put soaking in a glen or pond of water in the bog. After some time it was drawn out and spread very thinly on the field to dry. When dry it was bound up into bundles again and and put into a house to get thoroughly dry and brittle. it was then taken and placed between two blocks of wood and pounded. Then it was drawn through a machine called
