    This thatch was called "Gill-Cock". It was very good and lasted for many years when put on by a good thatcher. Inside, the roof was rough timber bare branches of trees. A rough beam of timber, the trunk of a tree cross the house under the chimney.

    Long ago the beds were kept in the kitchen these beds were called settle beds and could be opened out. This usually was in the corner by the fire.
