- The vessels used for the boxty were noggins. They had an old lid of a gallon and bored holes in it for a grater. They grated the potatoes into the noggin, a pinch of flour and salt. Then they had a fine cloth and squeezed the water out of the potatoes.They baked it on a pan with a little grace underneath so as not to let it burn. They made eight or nine cakes. This custom is still kept up to the present day.
