    were fires in the underground storey. The oats was spread overhead, and left there a day to dry. Then it was ground the next day. Bread was made from oaten meal and some flour. Potato cake was made of boiled bruised potatoes, some flour and some salt. Boxty bread was made of raw grated potatoes, flour and salt. Potato cake and boxty bread were baked on a pan. Oaten meal bread was made of oaten meal, salt or sugar, sour milk or water, The vessel the bread was baked in was called a pot oven.
