  1. My father, John Gillen, Dernish Island, Parish of Ahamlish, County Sligo, tells me there is a great treasure hidden about two hundred yards from the back of our house. This news was told to him by an old grandfather of his, who planted trees in the spot where the treasure is supposed to be hidden beneath a big rock on a little hill called "cnoc breac." The rock is a very peculiar shape, and is shaded by little blackthorns and other shrubs. The treasure is supposed to be gold ornaments. It is supposed that those precious articles belonged to old Irish chiefs.
