Before nightfall Billy & his stock reached a city. He noticed that the city was in mourning. He went in to a public house, called for a drink for himself & food for his stock. He then asked the proprietor why the city was in mourning & was told that next morning the King’s daughter was to be given to a dragon as a peace offering. Billy asked if nothing could be done to save her & he was told No. He then asked if he would be admitted to the ceremony & the proprietor said certainly. There were no restrictions.
Next morning the King’s daughter accompanied by the butler & a big crowd set off to the home of the dragon. As they came along Billy & his stock fell in - the butler walked on one side of the princess & Billy & his stock on the other - the crowd followed behind. Gradually the crowd fell back till there was no one left but the butler & Billy & his stock -princess in the middle.
