    & did not intend to tell her if he could help it - but she kept asking & asking & asking what was the matter with him & at last he was forced to tell her. When she heard the story she took the thing quietly & said "Oh! never mind God will send us another to take his place."
    Next day, the day on which the promise was to be fulfilled the man, his wife & two children dressed in their best proceeded down the garden path to the spot where they were to meet the black man, each carried a child. When they reached the appointed place the black man was there before them. "Well" he said to the sailor "I see you are a man of your word." "Yes," said the sailor, I have always tried to keep my word - no matter what the sacrifice." "Are you ready now to fulfil your promise" "Yes, although it is hard."
