- St Brendan was born in Listrim near Ardfert. He was baptised at Wether's well and became a priest. He founded a monastery in Ardfert and the ruins of it can be seen to day.
There is a well near Ardfert called after St Brendan. He built a church on top of Brendon mountain. He was a good sailor. He used to sail from Brandon to the Aran Islands. One day he was on a voyage with other men. They saw a whale asleep on top of the water. They tought it was a rock and they lighted a fire on it. The whale jumped and they swam to the shore. St Brendan died in Clonfert.- Collector
