- (ar lean ón leathanach roimhe)the pupils was : he would put one boy on another boy's back and beat him round the room with a whip with nine lashes. This was called a flogging or the cat of nine tails.
There was another school in a barn of James Beirnes of Laheen.The children used to be taught outside in the summer and in this barn in the winter or on wet days. They used to write on slabs of stone and used a sort of white stone as a pencil.
The master's name was Mick Gallagher. He taught arithmetic, Geography and Scripture.This master used to beat the children with an ash plant.
Protestants and Catholics used to attend these schools.
