When the Goban's son told this to his father he said "To-morrow when you rise take your best friend the dog, your greatest enemy your wife, and what you love best your son to the king's palace. When the king came the Gobáns son told him his dog was his best friend. He loved his son best and his wife was his greatest enemy. "If I was your greatest enemy" said his wife "I would have told long ago that your father was hiding behind the house." That is what I want" said the king. The Gobán was then taken and bound up and a great fire was ready for the burning of the old man. There was a great crowd of people gathered and stories were been told by all the noble men. One noble-man who was asked to tell a story said he was not able but that he would give £50 to the man who would tell a story for him.(continues on next page)
