  1. Long ago the people had a lot of old customs. (1) They would not leave a new pair of shoes on the table or they would not give good wear. (2) If a person let a knife fall they would have a disappointment. (3) If a fork fell you would have a visitor. (4) The young people would not go out at night without salt in their pocket.
    They had a lot of old customs about the building of houses - (1) they would not build a house to the east of the old house or they would have no luck, etc.
