- A very wide-spread belief in this parish was that certain people had the charm of bringing butter from their neighbours.A Story.
One May morning an old woman went in the shape of a hare to bring the butter from her neighbour. The man from whom she was to bring the butter had a dog and the dog pursued her (the hare) and caught her as she was going in on the window of her own house.
The man happened to go to the house afterwards to see would he notice if the woman was suffering from the evil effects. He found her seated at the kitchen fire and she complained that she was hurt.
On May day it was believed that certain people could bring their neighbour's butter by going to their neighbour's house and borrowing any iron - tool as a spade, or a shovel or a hay-fork.(continues on next page)- Collector
