This is how it got its name from the lake of the herons. During the time of the great war lots of people used to hide moneymakers and lots of things like that.
Kiltobannon. It got its name from a man by the name of Hugh Bannon and he lived in a wood. When he was dying he told all his friends and neighbors to call it Kiltobannon.
Monastorone got its name from the monastery of Owen. Once upon a time there lived a man by the name of Owen McDermott from Springfield. He built a monastery in Monastorone and when he died the people had great respect for him so they put that name on the village and that is why it is called Monastorone now.
Knockanaraha (Cnoch an Carraigh) got its name from the hill of Spring. There is a hill in that village now and long ago it was called the hill of Spring and that is why it is called Knockanaraha now.
Pollaugh. Once upon a time there was a priest in that village and one dark night he went out for a walk and he walked into the hole and got killed and that is why it is called Pollaugh at the present moment.
