  1. (continued from previous page)
When Mother was going to school there was an old man from Dublin who used to sell laces, tie-pins, hair-pins, Safety-pins etc. around Foxrock and he used always sit down at the corner of the Westminster Road to have something to eat, and they used to call him "Chew the Cud".
Another man goes around Dean's Grange, Cabinteely, and Cornelscourt every Saturday evening around six o'clock selling lace, tie-pins, scissors, burttons, studs, etc., and we call him "Jack the Bottle". Some call him "Jack the liar" and more call hin "Jack the Ripper".
There is another man goes around Cornelscourt, Cabinteely, Carrickmines and many other places begging, and if you are in the habit of giving him a penny each time, and forget to give him one he would ask you for one extra the next time and he is called "Daddy Moses" or "Holy Souls".
