  1. During the time of the famine, Indian Meal was brought here for the first time.
The late Mrs Adair's Father who lived in Glenveagh Castle, about four miles from this school, brought over a ship load of Indian meal from Scotland. It was sold to the people at a very low price. My Grandmother, Mary Jane Buchanan, got it, and was very glad to have it, to support her family of seven children.
This took place in the year eighteen hundred and forty seven.
