  1. A Song

I remember he came on a summer's day

I remember he came on a Summers day
And the year it was '21
The coat he wore was of silvery grey
While his eyes were a doggy brown.
And it seems to me I can see him now
As he gambolled to and fro
This little dog with the matted brow
    Sixteen long years ago.
And the days flew by as we watched him grow
This doggie with the playful way
Soon he learned the things that a doggie should know
For the merit of a master's praise.
At a reprimand he would look quite sad
While a fond word made him feel so glad
He would jump with joy again.
When the joys of Summer had come the way
We would go to the pond of Park
And there all day he would merrily play
We never came home until dark.
