  1. Local fairs are held in Fermoy, Cappoquin, Lismore, Youghal, Midleton and Killeagh. In Cappoquin and Killeagh the fairs are held in fair fields. Buyers transact business at cross-roads and at farmer's houses.
When the bargain is made the parties show their agreement by striking hands. The buyers carry a scissors in his pockets and clip a bit of hair off the ear of the animals. The greatest fairs of the year are Fermoy, Killeagh and Youghal.
Toll is not paid on cattle. When an animal is sold 'luck money' is given back. Five shillings per head on cattle is the luck money given. When a man sells an animal he sometimes gives a rope to the buyer.
