  1. Delaney from the market bought a fowl a month ago
If he caught the man who sold it he would kill him with a blow
He said it was a chicken of a quick and tender breed
But ah, man! more deceitful bird, sure you never heard or read
When they started off to pluck it, all their efforts were in vain
Sure their hands were torn and blistered and their muscles kept a strain
When they started for to pluck it and put it down to stew
If you want to set Delaney wild, shout "Cockey Doodle Doo"
That bird must have crowed when they built the Tower of Babel
Was fed by Cain and Abel and lived in Noah's stable
All that was fixed in the field of Waterloo
Would dislocate or elongate that armour-plated, iron-breasted
    Double-chested Cockey Doodle Doo.
Delaney gave the chicken for to give them all a night
Sure on Sunday night when the guests arrived they went right off their head
They worked with picks and shovels that were scattered off like tin
Sure they borrowed Delaney's rammer with which he used to ram the stones.
