    round the fire. All went well until the next night came, and then the girls went out, but their mother stayed within to watch the cows.
    Before the girls returned home that night a little woman came on to their mother, and said "if one of the girls would not be twenty miles away from their own home before twenty-four hours she would be taken away by the fairies.
    She then told the mother that she was a companion of her own that had been stolen away many a long day ago, and that she came to her as a warning.
    In fear and trembling the first girl went away, and the next night the little woman came again and told the second girls to be off, or the same thing would happen to her, and she went.
    On the third night she came again, and told the house to be empty before twenty four hours, that the fairies wanted it for themselves, and so the house was cleared.
