- (continued from previous page)used to eat porridge in the morning. Other people would not eat porridge so they would have to put down some potatoes. And when the potatoes would be boiled they would put a form on the floor, and they would put a basket on the form. And then the woman of the house would get a bunch of onions. Then they would put a ton of salt in the middle of the basket. They would also get a pigin of Buttermilk.For their dinner they used a little drop of tea and a bit of oatmeal bread. For the supper they used potatoes also. The food the people used long ago was better than the food they use at present. In some houses when the table would not be used they used tie it up to the roof with straw [?]. Some of the rich people would not use potatoes at all. They used to eat oatmeal bread and tea. The poor people used potatoe cake and boxty. The old people used boil milk and oatmeal and this they called "Bruchán". They had another food called "Suachán". They used a wooden jug called a pigin.
