  1. Frank Carolan, Killatee, Cootehill, Co. Cavan, who died in America about fifty years ago made many songs and poems. He went to America when he was thirty and died when he was forty. He made a song named "Lovely Sweet Drumgoon".
    Alas! Where are my comrades with whom I used to stray,
    Before I left my native land to wander far away;
    Some of them sleep on a foreign land where no shamrocks o'er them bloom,
    Far from the friends they'll meet no more round lovely sweet Drumgoon.
    II.
    One evening as yon towering trees the golden sun did screen,
    When lovely strayed a poor exile far from his isle of green;
    With troubled mind and tear-dimmed eye he watched the rising moon,
    Till alas his thoughts came back once more to lovely sweet Drumgoon.
    III.
    The tears rolled gently down his cheeks, he spoke thus mournfully,
