  1. About seventy five years ago Mr. Whitfield taught a night school in his own house in Killatee. All the boys went to that school. There was no Irish taught in it, only English Reading and Writing.
    On every Saturday night each boy gave him a few pennies and that was all the pay he got.
    The children wrote with slate pencils on slates. There was a large fire-place in it and the children brough a turf every night.
