for a while and Master Barrens was the last who taught before it was closed. They were men who got some education and they just taught for love of learning. They wrote with slate pencils.
The remains of the old school are to be seen yet on Mr James McEntyre's land. There is an old sidewall and an old corner stone there. My father took most of it down about eighteen years ago. He got very old iron pegs and slate pencils where the old ruins were. The only subject was Irish because Master Barrens had not a good education. He had no money or no dwelling so the people would support him in turn and an odd wealthy man gave him a small sum to buy clothes. It was turned into a dwelling house in eighteen thirty one and a man named Ned Ginnlinn[?] of Droka lived for twenty years in it weaving for the people.
