  1. A Local Song

    I am a rover that's sailing over

    I am a rover that's sailing over
The seas of toil and adversity.
At every shore I seek a store
Of the gold ore of tranquility.
Yet with endeavour and endless labour
I am sailing on that ocean still
Although I must fly I could live and die
In the homely valleys of sweet Murmod Hill
Three years past o'er with as many more
Since I came on shore of that lovely vale
I always hanker to cast my anchor
Where no foul rancour could me assail.
    No participation annoyed my station.
    But obligation to virtues will
Although I must rove to a distant cove
From the homely valleys of sweet Murmod Hill.
What cheerful notion the vernal motion.
Exciting those who frequent the glen
    The propagation of vegetation
    Brings animation to husbandmen.
The joyful spring makes the farmers sing
While his plough chain rings with a keenful thrill.
The harrow traces while industry graces
