It was on the eight of October in the year of eighty four

It was on the eight of October in the year of eighty four,
That day will be remembered around green Erin's shore
When the Patriots of Ireland with their hearts to Erin wed
Assembled in their thousands with Joe Biggars at their head
There were many in Virginia Town whose heads were old and grey
They were never known to witness such a grand and glorious play
Both young and old I do behold were advancing towards the scene
And each one wore or rather bore some emblems of the green
Our heroes came with fife and drum from far-famed Killinkere
While the Bailieboro' brass band played sweet music in the air
These bands I wee all wore the green and with their master's hand
They played the Harp of Tara's Halls, and God save Ireland
When we approached this good old town to view the gladdening scene
